Doggy Day Camp

Think of Doggy Day Camp as a hybrid between dog daycare and pack hikes. Once a week for a month, our camp counselors will pick up your pup at home, bring them to one of our private, outdoor locations to play and explore, and then bring them home. You can expect your pup to be out for four or five hours depending on travel times. While at camp, your pup will get ample exercise and enrichment while strengthening their social and listening skills.

Doggy Day Camp sessions are beginning in December 2024! As this is a new offering, we will open availability one pack at a time. That means once we have 5 dogs that are well-suited to each other, we will schedule their camp days. As folks register, we will schedule additional camp days.

What’s in a pack?

Believe it or not, hours of intense or uninterrupted play isn’t healthy for dogs. It can even cause physical injury or behavioral issues. That’s why we curate packs of 4 to 8 dogs based on personality and play style.

Packs meet every week for a month at the same time with the same counselor. This allows pups to form relationships and establish group dynamics with each other and their counselor.

By purposefully grouping dogs, we can help the whole pack learn healthy and appropriate play. While we always have at least 1 human for every 6 dogs, some dogs are wonderful teachers. By letting them learn from each other and offering gentle guidance, we help dogs learn how to communicate politely with each other and to establish and respect boundaries.

Camp Counselors

Let’s start with the big stuff first: safety. You can rest easy knowing your pup is safe because our camp counselors are insured and Dog and Cat First Aid certified by the Red Cross. Plus, we train them in dog communication, body language, and play styles. While your pup is playing, they are monitoring every ear twitch and shake to reinforce good communication skills between dogs and step in before problems arise.

Secondly, our counselors are dog people, and I don’t mean the ‘I had a dog once’ kind of dog person. I mean we LOVE dogs. We know that sometimes dogs do things we don’t like but they’re still good dogs. Most importantly, we know it’s our responsibility to set your pup up for success. That’s why we take the time to get to know each dog, so we can predict how they’ll react and plan for it.

The Campsite

We have a few different locations we can use for camp, depending on the pack. Each spot is privately owned which means to unknown people or dogs coming up to surprise anyone. (Shout out to our incredible, supportive network for offering the use of their properties!) For safety, we’ll always have at least 1 acre per pack of dogs. Mostly, these properties include large open fields or private trails. Some may be partially fenced and in some, we’ve been allowed to put up temporary fencing.

We want to offer our pups as much freedom to run, play, explore, and be dogs as we can. That’s why we integrate recall training into daily play and activities. Once pups can demonstrate reliable recall, they’ll be allowed to explore and run while dragging a long leash from a harness. Until then, they’ll get to run free within completely fenced-in areas and explore while a counselor holds their leash.
