Loose-Leash Training Walks

A leash is the physical manifestation of your connection to your dog. We start with loose-leash training because no one wants to be pulled around by their dog. Moreover, your dog doesn’t want to be pulled by you either! Once your pup has mastered basic leash training, we move on to public manners and desensitization to your pup's specific triggers.

The fine print: Some dogs will need to work on some skills more than others. We pace training to your pup’s specific needs and use the curriculum below as our guide.

Each 5-Walk Package is $240

Phase 1

Your first five loose-leash training walks are all about the basics. These walks are designed to get you and your pup walking together comfortably. To do that, we’ll cover:

  • Responding to leash pressure

  • Reinforcing eye contact

  • Basic heel position

Phase 2

Once your pup has the basics down, your second set of five walks focuses on safety commands. If you’ve got a pup that tends to chase cars or lunge for yummy (?) trash, you’re going to want this. When you opt for a 10 Pack (Phase 2), you’ll get everything from Phase 1 plus:

  • Implied Sit Stays (ie “I’ve told you to sit, now you stay there”)

  • Wait (“Go no further/wait for me to catch up”)

  • Leave it

Phase 3

Now that your pup can walk safely and politely on lead, the next five walks focus on implementing those skills in new and exciting places. A 15 Pack (Phase 3) includes everything from Phase 1 and 2, as well as:

  • Heeling in high distraction environments

  • Greeting people and other creatures

  • Store manners, so you can take your pup with you wherever you go

“Yesterday on our walk, there was another dog close by, and I kept the leash short. She stayed right next to me with a slack leash and was in no hurry to stop. I am seeing how she loves it. Thanks so much!”
